The Mid Autumn Festival, also known as the festival of sacrificing the moon, the moon birthday, the moon Eve, the autumn festival, the Mid Autumn Festival, the moon worship Festival, the moon mother's day, the Moon Festival and the reunion festival, is known as China's four traditional festivals together with the Spring Festival, the Qingming Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival. Eat moon cakes

Moon cakes originated from Zhu Jie food of the Tang Dynasty army. During the reign of emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty, General Li Jing conquered the Turks and won victory through the hidden message of moon cakes. He returned triumphantly on August 15. Since then, eating moon cakes has become an annual custom. "The moon is round on August 15, and the mid autumn moon cakes are fragrant and sweet". This famous proverb tells the custom of urban and rural people eating moon cakes on the night of the Mid Autumn Festival.

Sacrificing the moon

It is a very ancient custom in China. In fact, it is a kind of worship activity of the ancients to the "moon god". In ancient times, there was the custom of "autumn evening and evening moon". Since ancient times, in some parts of Guangdong, people have the custom of worshipping the moon god (worship the moon mother and moonlight) on the evening of the Mid Autumn Festival. Worship the moon, set up a large incense table, and put moon cakes, watermelon, apples, red dates, plums, grapes and other sacrifices. When the Mid Autumn Festival approaches, children, with the help of their parents, tie bamboo paper into rabbit lights, carambola lights or square lights.
