What should be paid attention to in classroom lighting?

2023-04-22

On July 13, 2021, the National Health Commission announced that the overall myopia rate of children and adolescents in China in 2020 was 52.7%, an increase of 2.5 percentage points compared to 2019 (50.2%). Myopia prevention and control, urgent! The education industry has also formulated relevant standards such as the "Hygienic Standards for Lighting and Lighting in Primary and Secondary School Classrooms" and the "Work Plan for Myopia Prevention and Control of Primary and Secondary School Students".

What harm can poor lighting in the classroom cause to the eyes? Students are still in the stage of growth and development, and poor quality classroom lighting fixtures can cause problems such as flickering and glare. Reading and studying under this lighting day after day can cause eye fatigue and even become an external factor causing myopia. Some classrooms use old fluorescent lights, which can cause blackening at both ends and noise due to prolonged use. These seemingly insignificant small problems can subtly affect students' health. What are the standards for installing lighting in school classrooms?

1. The lighting design value of the main classroom desktop or ground should not be lower than the following regulations, and its illumination uniformity should not be lower than 0.7 and should not produce glare.

2. The lighting power density value and corresponding illuminance value of the teaching room.

3. It is recommended to calculate and install lighting fixtures according to the standard of 9-11W/M2.

4. The blackboard in the classroom should be equipped with local lighting, which should maintain an average illuminance of not less than 500Lx and an illuminance uniformity of not less than 0.8.

5. It is recommended to use a light source with a color temperature of 3300K-5500K, and the color rendering index of the light source should not be less than 80.

6. In order to reduce direct glare caused by lighting sources, bare lighting should not be used in classrooms. The hanging height of the lamp from the class desktop should not be less than 1.7M, and the arrangement of the lamp tubes should be arranged with the long axis perpendicular to the blackboard surface.

Considering the current prevalence of myopia and other eye problems among teenagers, how to reduce the impact of campus lighting environment on students' vision has become a focus in the selection of "eye protection" lighting fixtures: ordinary classrooms should use lighting fixtures that meet the lighting standards for primary and secondary school classrooms. LED classroom eye protection light, without flicker or blue light hazards, adopts anti glare design, allowing teachers and students to work and study in a comfortable light environment. High color rendering index, color temperature around 5000k, close to natural light, uniform illumination, and not harsh to the eye.

Lighting requirements for classroom lights

Illumination requirements: Generally required to be above 300LX

Appropriate illumination makes the eyes feel comfortable and the eye muscles relax, which can protect vision.

Color temperature requirements: generally between 3500K-5500K

This range is relatively neutral, close to the color temperature of natural light. Ensure a calm mindset while not being overly dull.

Color rendering: Ra > 80 is required

High color rendering, clear handwriting, realistic images, able to maximize the restoration of natural light colors, and even higher color rendering in painting classrooms.

Lighting requirements for classroom blackboard lights

Illumination requirements: Generally required to be above 500LX

Improve students' attention and focused thinking abilities.

Color temperature requirements: generally between 3500K and 5500K, consistent and coordinated with classroom lighting.

Color rendering: Ra > 80 is required

Enable students to clearly identify the content written on the blackboard and protect their vision.

Lighting requirements for laboratory classroom lights

The basic lighting requirement for general experimental classrooms is to meet the illumination level of 300LX. If conditions permit or local lighting needs, it is necessary to reach 500LX. To meet the needs of experimental observation and recording. The color temperature requirement is between 3500K-5500K, and the color rendering requirement is greater than 85.

Lighting requirements for classroom lights in art classrooms

Special places require high-quality lighting, with a general illumination requirement of 500LX, as it is necessary to recognize small fonts and lines. The color temperature requirement is 3500K-5500K, and the color rendering requirement is Ra>85. The drawing colors are more realistic and not biased.

Lighting Requirements for Multimedia Classroom Classroom Lights

Due to the use of electronic devices such as computers, the requirements are relatively high, with a general illumination requirement of 500LX and a color rendering requirement of Ra>80.

Library lighting requirements

A common place for students to read and consult books and materials requires a good lighting environment to reduce eye fatigue. The general illumination requirement is 500LX, and the color rendering requirement is Ra>80. It is easy to distinguish some illustrations and picture books.
