Dragon Boat Festival is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. According to Jingchu Suishiji, the fifth day of the fifth day of May is also called "the Dragon Boat Festival", because climbing in midsummer, Shunyang is on top, and May is midsummer.

In addition, the Dragon Boat Festival is also called "the Noon Festival, the May Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Yulan Festival". Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional cultural festival popular in China and other countries in the Sinosphere. The Dragon Boat Festival originated in China. It was originally a festival of totem worship for the tribes worshipping dragon totems in the ancient Baiyue region (the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the area to the south)

"Zongzi is fragrant in the kitchen, wormwood leaves are fragrant in the hall, peach branches are inserted in the door, and when you go out, you can see wheat yellow. Here is Duanyang, there is Duanyang, and Duanyang is everywhere."

The earliest food during the Dragon Boat Festival should belong to the "Owl Soup" of the Western Han Dynasty. The annotation in the "Annals of Emperor Wu" in the "Records of the Grand Historian" is quoted as Chunyan: "Han envoys sent owls to Dongjun, and on May 5th, owl soup was given to hundreds of officials. They ate evil birds, so they ate them. Due to the difficulty in capturing owls, the custom of eating owl soup did not continue.

But Zongzi, the protagonist of the Dragon Boat Festival, appeared in the later Eastern Han Dynasty. It was not until the Jin Dynasty that Zongzi became the festival food of the Dragon Boat Festival. Fudoki: "On the fifth day of May, the same day as the summer solstice, the first two festivals and one day, we wrapped sticky rice with wild rice leaves, mixed with millet, and cooked it with thick ash juice.

What is there to play on Dragon Boat Festival?

All kinds of sacrificial and commemorative ceremonies are nothing more than burning incense candles, burning paper money, providing chicken, rice, meat, fruit, Zongzi, etc.

When people worship the Dragon God Temple, the atmosphere is very serious, and they often pray for a good harvest in agriculture, favorable weather conditions, eliminating evil spirits, overcoming disasters, achieving good luck in everything, and also bless the safety of boating. In people's words, 'to be lucky' expresses people's good wishes in their hearts.

Before the dragon boat race, one must first invite the dragon and offer sacrifices to the gods.

Before the Dragon Boat Festival, you should start from underwater to sacrifice the Nanhai God in the Nanhai Temple, install the dragon head and tail, and then prepare for the race. And buy a pair of small paper roosters and put them on a dragon boat, believing that it can bless the safety of the boat (vaguely corresponding to ancient bird boats). Fujian and Taiwan went to List of Mazu temples to worship. Some directly sacrifice the dragon head by the river, killing chickens and dripping blood on top of the dragon head.
