Relevant research has shown that poor classroom lighting environment is one of the main reasons for students' visual impairment. According to a survey, primary and secondary school students in China spend about 60% of their time in the classroom every day and are exposed to unhealthy lighting conditions for a long time: low light can bring visual fatigue; Excessive glare can cause the book in your hand to reflect light; Inefficient light sources cause low illumination on the desktop. Over time, changes in the refractive system of the eye will naturally occur, leading to myopia. The lighting environment in classrooms directly determines the eye hygiene and the incidence of myopia among adolescents.

Currently, some school classrooms maintain an average illuminance of 100-200lx on their desks, with an illuminance uniformity of around 0.5, which is far below the lower limit requirements of the national standard: 300lx and 0.7. Problems such as dim classrooms, uneven illumination, and severe glare still exist.

In view of this, the Ministry of Education and other 15 departments jointly formulated the "Action Plan for Preventing and Controlling Myopia in Children and Adolescents (2021-2025).". The plan clearly proposes to improve the visual environment of students and implement lighting and lighting requirements for classrooms, dormitories, libraries, etc.
